After graduating from Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry in 1994 within the first rank, he started his studies as a doctorate student at Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the fall semester of the same year.
In 1995, he was entitled to receive a scholarship with his project within the TÜBİTAK domestic doctoral program. Between 1996 and 1998, he worked as a clinical assistant at the Royal London Hospital NHS Trust Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department at Queen Mary and Westfield College University of London in England. On his return to Turkey in July 1998, he was appointed as a Research Assistant at Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After completing his specialization training in 2000, he was appointed as an Instructor in the same Department in May 2000 and as an Assistant Professor in 2004. Dr. Erkmen, who was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2006, worked as the Founding Department Head in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Near East University Faculty of Dentistry in the TRNC between 2008-2010 with the assignment of YÖK. He has been a Professor since 2011 and retired from his teaching position in 2023. Dr. Erkmen continues his clinical and educational activities as a physician in private.

Dr. Erkmen has a large number of foreign research articles published in international refereed journals scanned within the scope of SCI and SCI-Exp, and studies published in domestic journals.

Starting from 2019, he continues his undergraduate education in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Istanbul University as the second university.
Dr. Erkmen also conducts detailed studies and readings on philosophy, history of belief systems and esoteric subjects, and also conducts research on these subjects.
